What services does Reading Works offer?
One on one tutoring and small group instruction in reading, writing, speaking English, math and computer skills.
I want to speak English better. Do you have conversation groups?
I want to get my GED. Can you help me with that?
Who is eligible for your services?
Any adult (age 18 and older) who lives in Bernalillo County is eligible. We do not tutor children.
What is the cost?
Tutoring is free and Reading Works provides your materials and books. We do charge a one-time $10 registration fee that is payable when you come to your intake appointment.
How do I schedule an intake appointment?
Please call us at 505-321-9620 to schedule an appointment. You must schedule an appointment.
When do you schedule intake appointments?
On Wednesdays at 9:30 am and 1:30 pm.
How long is the intake appointment?
Expect 2 1/2 hours for your intake appointment.
I don't speak English. Do I need to bring an interpreter to my intake appointment?
Once matched with a tutor, what is my time commitment?
You will agree to meet with your tutor for 40 hours over six months. This works out to about 2 to 3 hours a week.
When will I meet with my tutor?
You will meet with your tutor on days and at times convenient for you.
Where will I meet with my tutor?
You will meet in a public place: our office, libraries, community centers, Goodwill offices. Tutors and students do not meet in private homes.
Will I have to do homework?
Yes. To get the most from your time with Reading Works, you will do homework.
Does Reading Works provide child care when I am meeting with my tutor?
No. You will need to arrange for child care.
When will I be assigned a tutor?
Matching depends on when a tutor is available and your schedule. You may be placed on a wait list.
