Our mission is to empower adults with the literacy and language skills they need to participate fully
and effectively in work, civic life, and community.
Our trained, volunteer tutors provide one-on-one
or small group instruction in:
Reading & Writing
English as a Second Language (ESL)
Reading Works serves 190-200 students each year.
Our students change their lives whether it's by
getting a job or better job - learning life skills -
enrolling in community college classes -
voting - earning a high school equivalency diploma -
becoming a U.S. citizen -
reading to a child.
" Hope happens here."
"Because of Reading Works,
I am free."
"Reading Works has changed my life for the better."
In 2018, the National Literacy Directory awarded Reading Works an innovation grant for its writing program "New Words." The prize recognizes innovative literacy programs that are finding solutions to persistent challenges.
